Switzerland is in the enviable position of having enough drinking water and large water reserves.
Life would not be possible without groundwater. Groundwater is critically important to the healthy functioning of ecosystems. Although groundwater is invisible, its impact is visible everywhere. Our drinking water and sanitation, our food supply and natural environment – all these rely on groundwater. What we do on the surface matters underground. Groundwater is being over-used in many areas. Groundwater pollution is a particular problem that can take decades or even centuries to recover from. Protecting and sustainably using groundwater will be central to surviving and adapting to climate change, preventing biodiversity loss and meeting the needs of a growing population.
Robeco has been a global leader in sustainable investing since 1995 and launched one of the first sustainable water themed investment strategies in 2001. As such raising awareness for water and the issues associated with water scarcity such as loss of biodiversity and climate change, is particularly important to us. Robeco invests globally in providers of products and services that help solve the challenges associated with using water sustainably: from technologies that purify and desalinate rain, sea or wastewater, to rainwater harvesting systems for use in regions with chronic shortages.
