Robeco Flexible Allocation is an actively managed global multi asset fund. The aim of the fund is to achieve long term capital growth by taking global exposure to asset classes such as equities, bonds, deposits, Alternative Investments and/or other generally accepted asset classes. The fund applies a flexible allocation strategy to various global asset classes, seeking to balance the trade-off between risk and return. This means the fund's portfolio composition will be determined and adjusted based on market conditions. The asset allocation strategy is subject to investments and volatility restrictions. The portfolio management team can also use other investment instruments to enhance the risk return profile of the fund.

Ernesto Sanichar is a portfolio manager with a focus on multi asset & equity solutions and member of the Investment Solutions team. His asset specialties are fixed income and FX. He has been part of Robeco's Investment Solutions department since 2005. Previously, he was Treasury Manager for four years. Prior to joining Robeco in 2001, Ernesto worked at ING Barings as a Product controller at the cash equities and derivatives desk for three years. Ernesto started his career in the investment industry in 1998. He holds a Master's in Financial Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Arnout van Rijn is Portfolio Manager and member of the Sustainable Multi Asset team. Previously, Arnout was CIO Asia Pacific, Co-Head of the Asia Pacific team and Lead Portfolio Manager of Robeco Asia Pacific Equities. Before that, he was Lead Portfolio Manager of Rolinco, one of Robeco's flagship global equity products. Before that, Arnout held several positions within the Robeco Equity department, covering European, Asian and American markets. From its inception in 1994 until 2000, he was Portfolio Manager of Robeco's Emerging Markets Equities fund. He started his career in the investment industry in 1990. Arnout holds a Master's in Business Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Daniel Lai is Portfolio Manager Insurance & Pensions Solutions in the Sustainable Multi Asset Solutions team. He joined Robeco in 2012. His focus is modelling and implementing overlay strategies and matching portfolios in derivatives, government bonds and credits. He started his career with Cardano Risk Management in 2011. Daniel holds an Master’s in Econometrics from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The fund is established in Luxembourg and is subject to the Luxembourg tax laws and regulations. The fund is not liable to pay any corporation, income, dividend or capital gains tax in Luxembourg. The fund is subject to an annual subscription tax ('tax d'abonnement') in Luxembourg, which amounts to 0.05% of the net asset value of the fund. This tax is included in the net asset value of the fund. The fund can in principle use the Luxembourg treaty network to partially recover any withholding tax on its income.

The fiscal consequences of investing in this fund depend on the investor's personal situation. For private investors in the Netherlands real interest and dividend income or capital gains received on their investments are not relevant for tax purposes. Each year investors pay income tax on the value of their net assets as at 1 January if and inasmuch as such net assets exceed the investor’s tax-free allowance. Any amount invested in the fund forms part of the investor's net assets. Private investors who are resident outside the Netherlands will not be taxed in the Netherlands on their investments in the fund. However, such investors may be taxed in their country of residence on any income from an investment in this fund based on the applicable national fiscal laws. Renewed tensions in the Middle East shaped financial markets throughout July. The escalation of geopolitical risks shifted investors' attention toward energy prices, inflation and interest rates. Major equity indices proved relatively resilient, but beneath the surface markets underwent a broader repricing. The escalation of hostilities between the United States and Iran pushed oil prices higher, reversing much of the improvement in inflation expectations seen during the second quarter. Central banks left rates unchanged but adopted a cautious tone as higher energy prices complicated the inflation outlook. Government bond yields rose, tightening financial conditions and weighing on fixed income. Corporate earnings generally exceeded expectations, supporting equity markets despite higher discount rates. However, returns became increasingly selective, with significant divergence across sectors and individual companies. US equities remained resilient, while European markets faced pressure from higher energy costs and rising bond yields. Emerging markets underperformed, largely due to a sharp correction in South Korean equities. Headline indices masked substantial differentiation.

Toelichting rendement

Based on transaction prices, the fund's return was -0.54%. July was a more challenging month for financial markets. Renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States pushed oil prices higher and weighed on investor sentiment. As a result, both equity and bond markets came under pressure. Toward the end of the month, however, equity markets recovered as corporate earnings proved stronger than expected. The Robeco Flexible Allocation Fund returned -0.24% during July. The main detractor was the fund's equity exposure. During the month, the equity beta was reduced rapidly from 35% to 26%. As part of this more defensive positioning, the underweight in long-dated US government bonds was increased and exposure to the Norwegian krone was raised. At the same time, market volatility created opportunities to strengthen several high conviction positions, including European short-term government bonds, where we believe too many rate hikes are priced in, emerging market debt and the Robeco Market Neutral strategy. As market conditions improved toward the end of the month, the equity beta was increased again to 28%.
