Robeco High Income Green Bonds is an actively managed sub-fund that invests in green bonds globally issued by corporates, governments, government-related agencies. The selection of these bonds is based on fundamental analysis. Other bonds that can be invested in are either social bonds, and sustainable bonds. The selection of these bonds is based on fundamental analysis. The Sub-fund will seek to maintain a high and consistent level of income by investing in a broad array of sectors within green bonds.

Joost Breeuwsma

Evert Giesen is a portfolio manager investment grade, emerging and Asian credits in the Credit team. Previously, he was an analyst, responsible for covering the automotive sector within the Credit team. Prior to joining Robeco in 2001, Evert worked at AEGON Asset Management for four years as a fixed income portfolio manager. He has been active in the industry since 1997 and holds a Master's in Econometrics from Tilburg University. Joost Breeuwsma is a portfolio manager investment grade in the Credit team. He has a focus on global investment grade portfolios and global green bond portfolios. Prior to starting his career and joining Robeco in 2017 as a credit analyst, he obtained a Master’s with Distinction in Financial Mathematics from King’s College London. Joost is CFA® Charterholder.

The fund is established in Luxembourg and is subject to the Luxembourg tax laws and regulations. The fund is not liable to pay any corporation, income, dividend or capital gains tax in Luxembourg. The fund is subject to an annual subscription tax ('tax d'abonnement') in Luxembourg, which amounts to 0.01% of the net asset value of the fund. This tax is included in the net asset value of the fund. The fund can in principle use the Luxembourg treaty network to partially recover any withholding tax on its income.

Investors who are not subject to (exempt from) Dutch corporate-income tax (e.g. pension funds) are not taxed on the achieved result. Investors who are subject to Dutch corporate-income tax can be taxed for the result achieved on their investment in the fund. Dutch bodies that are subject to corporate-income tax are obligated to declare interest and dividend income, as well as capital gains in their tax return. Investors residing outside the Netherlands are subject to their respective national tax regime applying to foreign investment funds. We advise individual investors to consult their financial or tax adviser about the tax consequences of an investment in this fund in their specific circumstances before deciding to invest in the fund.

June brought resolution to the Iran-US conflict that dominated Q2, with oil prices reversing toward pre-conflict levels after a signed deal. Although there are still some loose ends to be negotiated, the deal eased stagflation fears and supported sentiment across most markets. With credit spreads already trading near historical tights during most of the conflict, credit markets did not move materially on the deal announcement. Credit markets were broadly stable, with investment grade spreads marginally wider in the US and little changed in Europe. In high yield, European spreads were modestly wider, while the US was more stable. Emerging market spreads continued to tighten over the month. The resumption of oil flows from the Gulf region should be positive for Asian economies. In China, the manufacturing sector performs solid, but consumer spending remains soft. The Fed grew more open to hikes as US payrolls surprised to the upside, while the ECB and Bank of Japan both raised rates. 5-year US Treasury yields rose 9 bps to 4.23%, while in Europe 5-year yields dropped 4 bps to 2.60%.

Based on transaction prices, the fund's return was -0.04%. The portfolio recorded a positive monthly return, gross of fees. Duration made a small positive contribution which was mainly driven by cash yields. US duration exposure contributed negatively, while exposure to EUR yields made a positive contribution. Contribution from credit was positive. Positions with the highest positive contributions were Saudi bank Saudi Awal Bank, Dutch bank ASN and utility RWE. The biggest negative contributor were newly issued bonds of MTR Corp.

The global economic outlook has improved following the US-Iran agreement and the expected reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has significantly reduced geopolitical risks. Economic growth remains resilient, supported by ongoing technology investment and fiscal stimulus measures, although inflation continues to pose a challenge for policymakers. In this environment, we expect higher-carry assets, such as subordinated debt and high yield bonds, to perform well. However, despite the more constructive backdrop, tight credit spreads call for a selective investment approach with a focus on shorter spread-duration instruments. While the inflationary impact of higher oil prices is likely to fade, inflation remains above central bank targets amid continued economic strength. As a result, we maintain a cautious duration stance, favoring intermediate maturities where valuations appear more balanced and exposure to interest-rate risk is less pronounced.
