Robeco has long believed in engagement as an effective tool to drive sustainability improvements at investee companies. But what do the engaged companies think about it? Are they also believers that the engagement with Robeco is in their own interest and helps them advance their practices, or are they just going through the motions to please shareholders?
To find out, we conducted an extensive survey using the expertise of two leading academics from the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University. The survey asked participants some leading questions, from how the engagement had contributed to the company, to what insights were learned, and ultimately to whether it actually made them more sustainable.
The results are published in our new white paper, ‘From conversation to transformation: Evidence for engagement effectiveness’. It includes the academic perspective from Dr Emilio Marti who helped create it, a perspective from a Robeco engagement specialist, and our vision for the road ahead for Active Ownership after 20 years of doing it.
