Market development

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundInvestmentExplanations.date,'llll') ]}}

October was a month with a lot of different sentiments and sometimes wild stock moves. Good results and solid guidance are usually met with positive stock reactions, but as a company you do not want to disappoint, miss slightly or even just meet expectations. And for sure, you do not want to be guiding down future earnings or revenues. With the results we have seen so far, we are even more convinced of our current positioning. In 18Q4 a big sell-off led to a great entry point in 2019. That sort of sell-off has not occurred so far in 2019 and actually markets were up slightly in October. Even without a sell-off like last year we are still positive as valuations look very reasonable and the outlook is not too bad. So what happened in October (and also already a bit in September) was just a reshuffling within markets, from growth to value, from tech to non-tech and from momentum to other factors.

Dividend policy

The fund does not distribute dividend. Any income earned is retained, and so the fund's entire performance is reflected in its share price.

ESG Integration policy

Robeco New World Financials Equities integrates ESG factors into its investment process by analyzing the impact of financially material ESG factors to a company’s competitive position and value drivers. We believe that this enhances our ability to understand existing and potential (long-term) risks and opportunities of a company. The impact of material ESG factors can be positive or negative, reflecting risks or opportunities, that ensue from a company’s ESG analysis. If ESG risks and opportunities are significant, the ESG analysis could impact a stock’s fair value and the portfolio allocation decision. In addition to ESG integration, Robeco also has an exclusion policy and conducts proxy voting and engagement activities focused on specific themes, such as climate change, aiming to improve a company’s sustainability profile.

Investment policy

Allocation to trend strategies that are based on long-term growth trends offer possibilities of outperforming the broader market over a 3-5 year investment horizon. This trend fund invests in companies in financial-related industries worldwide that benefit most from the selected long-term trends. Global population growth, urbanization, higher household incomes, technological changes and growth in emerging markets are the main drivers for our trend strategies. The fund manager selects the companies that have as pure as possible exposure to the selected trends and themes. Proprietary valuation models are used to select stocks with good earnings prospects and a reasonable valuation. Companies are individually assessed on the basis of in-depth discussions with corporate management and consultations with internal and external analysts.

Risk policy

Risk management is fully integrated into the investment process to ensure that positions always meet predefined guidelines.

Expectation of fund manager

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundFacts.date,'llll') ]}}

At the end of October, the Fed lowered rates again but for now it seems they will be on hold for a while. With Draghi being replaced at the ECB by Lagarde and taking some big steps in his last official actions, we suspect that Lagarde will also wait as long as possible before making another rate cut / QE expansion decision. More structurally, in the Emerging Finance trend, we see the best long-term economic growth and earnings growth perspectives at decent valuation multiples. In the Digital Finance trend, growth trends are very powerful and are set to remain so unless a strong recession would cause the banks to stop investing in technology. Finally, in the Aging Finance trend, low long-term interest rates create a more challenging environment but also one of opportunity as valuations are very low and attractive. Many life insurers have cash yields above 10% and dividend yields close to 6% or higher.
