Performance explanation

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundInvestmentExplanations.date,'llll') ]}}

Based on transaction prices, the fund's return was 2.99%. Multi Asset Growth delivered a return of more than 3% in June. Halfway through the year, the fund's return is above 11%. The wave of optimism that continued to sweep the financial markets benefited the fund due to its higher gearing towards equities. The fund remains less exposed to the government bond market and within fixed income the fund is slightly tilted towards high yield at the expense of investment grade corporates. In equities, the preference is still for value stocks and European and Japanese equities and less so for US equities. We still favor commodities, but we did take some profit on the allocation. However, we remain optimistic about the long-term potential of the asset class. The best-performing strategies in the portfolio were BNP Paribas Easy Energy & Metals and MegaTrends.

Market development

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundInvestmentExplanations.date,'llll') ]}}

Last month saw a further step in the re-opening of developed economies with a notable easing of lockdowns in the Eurozone. However, new variants of Covid-19 are still spreading. The good news is that UK data shows that vaccinations can keep hospitalization rates low, even with infections on the rise. Globally, the manufacturing sector is still experiencing strong growth on the back of burgeoning consumer demand. Despite strong growth levels, declining inventory-to-sales ratios and increasing work backlogs show that supply side constraints have become even more pressing. This could potentially hamper output further down the road. Market sentiment was predominantly driven by central bank communications. The Fed seemed to have turned more hawkish. By contrast, the ECB managed to sound dovish. US 10-year rates drifted lower towards the 1.4% level. The MSCI World (hedged to the euro) generated 4.6%. Commodities proved to be the best-performing asset class last month (+7.0% in euros). Both high yield and investment grade spreads compressed further, with US IG generating 1.6%.

ESG Integration policy

Robeco Multi Asset Growth primarily invests in Robeco funds. Robeco strives to incorporate ESG issues in investment decisions. For the majority of the investments ESG integration occurs indirectly. The ambition is to have ESG integration for the full composition of the portfolio. Sustainability can be a decisive factor in the fund-selection process. Capabilities from other asset managers can be selected. Such funds are currently out of the scope of the sustainability screening.

Investment policy

Robeco Multi Asset Growth is an actively managed global multi asset fund. The fund's objective is to achieve a better return than the index. The fund promotes ESG (i.e. Environmental, Social and corporate Governance) characteristics within the meaning of Article 8 of the European Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation and integrates ESG and sustainability risks in the investment process. In addition, the fund applies an exclusion list on the basis of controversial behavior, products (including controversial weapons, tobacco, palm oil and fossil fuel) and countries. The fund has a relatively high risk profile and uses asset allocation strategies mainly investing directly in equities and taking exposure to other asset classes such as bonds, deposits and money market instruments. The asset allocation strategy is subject to investments and volatility restrictions. The portfolio management team can also use other investment instruments to enhance the riskreturn profile of the fund. The majority of investment instruments selected through this approach will be components of the Benchmark, but investment instruments outside the Benchmark index may be selected too. The fund can deviate substantially from the weightings of the Benchmark. The investment policy is not constrained by a benchmark but the fund may use a benchmark for comparison purposes. The fund can take a substantial active risk. The fund can deviate substantially from the issuer, country and sector weightings of the Benchmark. There are no restrictions on the deviation from the Benchmark. The Benchmark is a broad market weighted index that is not consistent with the ESG characteristics promoted by the fund.

Risk policy

Risk management is fully integrated in the investment process to ensure that the positions always meet predefined guidelines.

Expectation of fund manager

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundFacts.date,'llll') ]}}

We find that the so-called ‘reflation theme’ of above-trend economic growth and rising inflation still has legs. The market, however, has clearly grown more anxious since the hawkish shift in Fed guidance recently. We don’t think the Fed has abandoned its goal of achieving maximum employment and will remain unwilling to raise rates pre-emptively. We remain optimistic about risk-bearing assets. Despite the earlier mentioned consolidation in the value-growth trade, we expect a further rotation from growth to value as yields move higher towards our 10-year Treasury target of 1.85% by the end of 2021. The long-term outlook for commodities remains favorable, but there are some short-term headwinds such as a stronger USD and measures by the Chinese government to curb price rises. Within equities we like regions that are relatively cheap and are benefiting from higher interest rates, and value stocks. The outlook for high-quality corporate bonds is no longer attractive due to the historically low spreads and their high interest-rate sensitivity. Higher-yielding corporate bonds have a lower interest rate risk and a higher spread, making them more attractive than investment grade.
