Performance explanation

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundInvestmentExplanations.date,'llll') ]}}

Based on transaction prices, the fund's return was 4.82%. Robeco BP US Premium Equities performed in line with the Russell 3000 Value Index in October, as markets marched higher during a broadly positive earnings season. From a stock selection perspective, the fund added value primarily in three sectors – communication services, energy and technology. Within communications, avoiding cell phone service providers Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile added, while on the cable and entertainment side, the fund did well to avoid Comcast and Disney. Chinese video game holding NetEase was higher by almost 17%, adding to returns. Within energy, most holdings gained over 10%, led by Marathon Oil, EOG Resources and Diamondback Energy. Finally, in technology, the fund added through owning Oracle and SS&C Technologies nearly to the same effect as avoiding Intel, with the chip maker declining by more than 8% in October. Sector allocation was positive over the month, mostly due to the fund's underweight exposure to communication services and consumer staples.

Expectation of fund manager

{{'fund.detail.general.perDate' | labelize:[ fundDate(fund.fundFacts.date,'llll') ]}}

US equity markets made a strong comeback in October, after a negative previous month. The market continued to narrow as the cap-weighted S&P 500 outperformed the equal-weighted by 1.7% in the month, while the yield curve (10-year - 2-year) flattened. There are several items coming up in November, with the COP26 summit, the FOMC meeting and the release of other market indicators that will all drive headlines. The earnings season will wrap up and the market will start to look forward to the holiday season, with a focus on consumer spending and supply chain impacts. We will continue to focus at a company-by-company level and as always, the fund remains well positioned with holdings that reflect Boston Partners' three circle characteristics – attractive valuations, solid business fundamentals and identifiable catalysts.
