Sustainable Investing Research Intern

Duration: 4-6 months

Deadline to apply: 20 November 2026

Robeco's Sustainable Investing (SI) Research team conducts fundamental company and industry research, develops financially material sustainability analysis, and supports the integration of sustainability insights into investment decisions. We are looking for a highly analytical and motivated intern to contribute to the development of quantitative approaches for assessing how financially material sustainability factors influence companies' business value drivers (BVDs), financial performance, cash-flow generation and resilience. The internship offers an opportunity to apply financial modeling, econometrics, data science and AI-driven research to real-world investment challenges, working alongside experienced sustainability researchers and investment professionals.

Main areas of responsibilities

The intern will support the SI Research team in enhancing the quantitative assessment of financially material sustainability factors and their impact on company valuation and financial resilience.

The project may include:

  • Financial materiality and business value drivers: Analyze how financially material sustainability factors affect revenue growth, operating costs, profitability, capital expenditure (CapEx), return on invested capital (ROIC), free cash flow (FCF) and other relevant business value drivers.

  • Historical financial benchmarking: Develop sector- and company-level datasets combining historical sustainability indicators with financial performance metrics to identify trends, relationships and differences across peer groups.

  • Quantitative modeling and statistical analysis: Apply econometric and statistical techniques, such as regression analysis, panel-data modeling, time-series analysis and sensitivity testing, to investigate relationships between sustainability factors and financial outcomes.

  • Corporate resilience analysis: Explore how sustainability-related characteristics, including operational efficiency, supply-chain diversification, governance and risk management, influence financial stability and performance during periods of market stress or external disruption.

  • Financial impact estimation: Investigate approaches to translating sustainability-related risks and opportunities into financially relevant assumptions for revenue, margins, CapEx, cash flow and company valuation.

  • AI-driven data analytics: Explore the use of AI tools, including AI agents and automated data extraction, to identify, collect, structure and validate new sustainability and financial data points.

  • Research validation and communication: Assess data quality and methodological limitations, evaluate the robustness of findings, and communicate results through clear analytical reports and visualizations.

The precise research scope will be defined with the supervising researcher, focusing on selected sustainability factors, sectors and financial indicators to deliver a practical and meaningful outcome within the internship period.

The intern will report to a senior SI researcher and collaborate with colleagues across Robeco's SI Centre of Expertise and investment teams, contributing to the development of research methodologies that can support investment analysis
