For every three hours of exercise, we’ll plant a tree.

Robeco Biodiversity Challenge 2023

After the success of the 2022 Biodiversity Challenge, our second challenge started on May 22, the International Day of Biological Diversity. We’re focusing on the Trillion Trees ReForest Fund and will plant a tree for every three hours of exercise. Together we can make a difference!

  • Reforestation as the way forward

Planting a trillion trees - one tree at a time - will go a long way to restoring the balance of nature and helping combat climate change.

  • The Great Outdoors - your Strava stories

Some like running, others are bike people. Enjoy the stories and anecdotes from the challenge participants as they hit the road.

  • Logging exercise, not logging trees

We'll plant a tree for every three hours of exercise logged. And you don't have to run marathons - any activity can count.

A Trillion Trees could stabilize global warming

This 2023 Biodiversity Challenge aims to help the Trillion Trees ReForest Fund, where we will plant a tree for every three hours of exercise logged on Strava.

There used to be about six trillion trees on Earth. Now, following centuries of deforestation, it’s less than half that. The Trillion Trees project aims to restore some of those lost by planting wherever space allows.

And that could make a real difference to climate change. Once they are fully grown, one trillion trees could capture between 488 billion and 1 trillion tons of CO2. As 37 billion tons of CO2 are emitted every year, this could absorb 12-25 years’ worth of emissions and stabilize global warming.

Keep up with our fun stories from the Biodiversity Challenge

The Biodiversity Challenge always provides a wealth of great stories and anecdotes from the participants. In the last challenge, one person ran up Table Top Mountain in South Africa while another swapped her London commute for bicycling.
