Job description

The Governance & Active Ownership department has a vacancy for a motivated working student, with affinity for sustainability investing and knowledge in corporate governance. During a period of six months you will contribute to the execution of the proxy voting process. Holding shares at publicly listed companies entails shareholder rights, including participating and voting at shareholder meetings. In these meetings, shareholders are able to vote on important corporate governance matters such as the election of board directors, approval of executive pay, mergers and acquisitions, and environmental and social shareholder proposals, among others. As the large majority of votes are submitted electronically, and through a chain of intermediary parties, Robeco votes “via proxy”. Proxy voting is an important active ownership strategy that allows shareholders have a say in important corporate governance decisions and influence the behavior of investee companies.

As most of the shareholder meetings take place in the second quarter of the year, the voting workload increases during that period. During a period of six months you will contribute to the execution of the proxy voting process. This involves actively monitoring the voting process, conducting analysis on corporate governance practices of companies in which Robeco invests and preparing voting reports. The role requires both administrative and analytic skills, focus on detail and the ability to carry out procedures thoroughly. You will also find out how Robeco enters into a dialogue with these companies on corporate governance topics. The Governance & Active Ownership department has a vacancy for the period 1 February 2017 – end of July 2017.

We are looking for an enthusiastic student in the last phase of university education with affinity for sustainability and corporate governance. Master students are preferred as the position involves independent thinking and conducting advanced research. In addition, proficiency in excel and using IT tools are desirable.
