Social Media Intern

An opportunity to learn the ropes of social media marketing…

For a third year in a row we have the opportunity to add a social media intern to our team. We are happy with the results and success of these internships. And when we say we, I mean not only the Sales & Marketing organization but especially also our interns. Or as one put it: “it’s fun working here. I get a lot of freedom to be creative and I learn a lot. It was a steep learning curve in the first three months, but after that I started getting into my stride, which allowed the rest of the team give me more responsibilities. This gave me a better overview of how things work, which in turn made my tasks easier. This allowed me to learn the ins and outs of working life, something that no amount of time at university could prepare me for. The internship is truly an opportunity that no one should pass up.”

…as part of an experienced social media team…

Three people, including the intern, focus on social media at Robeco. One senior person has overall responsibility and a deeper knowledge of Twitter. Whereas the other member of the team is an expert on LinkedIn. You will also work with our investment writers, on texts for your posts, with our Studio on visuals for posts, and with our Webmasters, who are responsible for uploading our regular social posts. And you will have direct contact with experts at Twitter and LinkedIn.

What will you learn & your responsibilities

The basics
Learn: 
about internal stakeholders and their respective fields of influence 
  • about external partners and what we can expect from them 
  • how to update internal stakeholders with weekly data reports 
  • about our in-house Social Media Knowledge Base 
  • our terminology/jargon
  • how to use our social media tool (Obi4Wan) and become the primary contact for our organization
  • how to prepare meetings
  • how to keep track of tasks
  • how to register, receive and say goodbye to visitors
Do: 
  • update our in-house Social Media Bible 
  • be an active part of our customer journey optimization team
  • generate ideas on how we can innovate
  • improve results from organic and promoted posts (see below)

Organic posts

Web care: 
  • monitor the social channels to establish how people engage with our content 
  • inform/involve the rest of the company when needed.
  • respond to posts, if needed or necessary
Post-creation:
  • monitor the creation of a steady flow of content (by our investment writers) 
  • monitor the publication of our posts on our social channels (by our webmasters) 
  • monitor the pacing/planning of content
  • create posts for ad-hoc major ‘events’ 
Promote social sharing:
  • coordinate the creation of posts to be shared by 250 employees on social channels (using the Elevate tool)
  • educate employees on and promote the use of Elevate (including monitoring statistics)

Advertising

Learn: 
  • how to set up ads on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook/Instagram
  • the different ways of targeting (e.g. remarketing) and what results to expect from each 
  • how to create approved copy & creatives for ads
  • what actions are needed to influence those targets
  • how to tag URLs and what to tag them with (and why we do that)
Do: 
  • create posts
  • start, pause, adapt and stop campaigns 
  • perform A/B tests
  • monitor campaign results (vs. agreed KPIs)
  • maintain, monitor and report on budgets (per account)
  • report on KPIs.

Analyzing the results

Learn:
  • how to work with analytics tools (e.g. Adobe analytics)
  • how to understand the statistics, and what they can be used for 
  • how to work with the analytics environments of the social channels
Do: 
  • create reports
  • analyze results
  • inform and educate stakeholders
  • formulate learnings

Requirements

We are looking for students doing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communication with a special interest in (and are active on) social media. The selection will be based on skills, education, personality and motivation.
