As an intern data analyst at, the online fund shop for retail investors, you will join the Retention & Customer Value team. As such, you will work closely with our E-CRM & Online data analysts as well as external consultants.

The assignment

The main asset our team focuses on are clients. It is all about gaining insights in customer profiles and their behavior. Predicting what customer’s actions will be in the future is key for our business. During the internship you will analyze internal as well as external data, and use advanced analytics to develop useful prediction models or segmentations. You will create models based on machine learning, but if deep learning is something you want to experiment with, you are more than welcome to do so. Are you able to find valuable hidden insight in the data? The assignment serves both learning/innovation and business goals, so writing your Master’s thesis in combination with the internship is a possibility.

Business goals

This internship is meant to be a learning experience for both parties, so a few business goals are listed below:

  • Identifying properties of our most loyal customers and see how their behavior changes over time.
  • Creating a dynamic predictive model to predict behavior paths for existing clients.
  • Identifying segments of customers to improve the personalization of the marketing.

However, the definitive direction your research takes and what tools you use is up to you! These goals can serve as a starting point and we encourage creativity as long as your research aligns with our business goals.


  • Ambitious Master’s student in Econometrics, Statistics, AI, Data Science or other closely related programs.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying statistics & machine learning models.
  • Experience with programming, for example in R, Matlab, or Python.
  • Interest in Online Marketing/Asset Management & Retail banking.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and some understanding of the Dutch language.

Practical details

  • A starting date would be September 2018, but will be mutually agreed upon.
  • Duration of the internship is flexible.
  • The position is for 32-40 hours per week, but can also be discussed if there are any issues.
  • You will get the freedom to focus largely on your assignment/thesis without any side projects.
  • Current enrollment at a university is required.
