Over 7,000 companies were assessed as part of the 2020 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), which resulted in 70 gold class, 74 silver class, and 98 bronze class medals being awarded to companies in the Sustainability Yearbook 2021.

In addition to company results, the Yearbook also features an article by Robeco Sustainability experts, Jacob Messina and Jan Anton van Zanten, about how the Covid-19 crisis has highlighted the need for finding other ways of measuring national success, besides GDP.

With millions of data points on the most financially material ESG criteria in each industry, the Yearbook remains a comprehensive guide to the strongest performing, largest companies in the world. That information is integrated into the investment process at Robeco.

Following the transfer of RobecoSAM’s ESG data collection activities and Corporate Sustainability Assessment to S&P Global in 2020, the Yearbook is now published by S&P Global. Robeco works closely with S&P Global and provides advice on the CSA methodology. Robeco uses their resources and collective research expertise to interpret ESG data and use it for investment purposes.

We pull from as many data sources as possible, including the CSA, to understand this information, research it and integrate it into our decision-making processes.
