Robeco Outlook 2013

Five investment themes to look out for in 2013

22-11-2012 | Press release | Léon Cornelissen, Ronald Doeswijk

Rotterdam, 22 November 2012 -Today Robeco’s Financial Markets Research team presented five investment themes to look out for next year, during a conference with media in Amsterdam.
Highlights of the meeting included another US downgrade, a Eurozone debt crisis that is back with a vengeance and a revitalized Chinese economy.
In the attached report, you will find Robeco’s view on how these developments will affect the prospects for investment assets. The main themes the report touches on:

  • Compromise on fiscal cliff likely to see US recession avoided but it will probably not be enough to stave off further downgrades
  • No endgame for eurozone debt crisis; region’s economy to shrink in 2013
  • China’s economy back on right track but little real reform expected from new leadership
  • Little scope for corporate earnings growth, making equities’ prospects lackluster
  • Credits, high yield and emerging debt are best options in 2013’s low-return environment
