Engagement
Engagement is the active use of investors’ rights to influence companies. Its aim is to increase the long term value of the company for its shareholders and its other stakeholders.
Approach
Robeco believes that engagement is a key part of responsible investing and that engagement in the long term is beneficial to companies, their shareholders including ultimate beneficiaries, and other stakeholders. Engagement means both entering into an active dialogue with companies and the active use of voting rights. On behalf of its clients Robeco encourages companies to implement good corporate governance and socially responsible corporate policy.
Engagement phases
The engagement process is made up of five different phases. The decision to exit or to enter a next phase in the process is a continuous process of consideration. The decision is influenced by the expected effect on shareholder value, return for shareholders, costs, efforts and reputation risks and chances of success.
Anchors
Robeco’s ambition on responsible investing cannot be seen apart from its wide range of products and its specialist investment teams, serving a diverse client base. Robeco chose a broad set of (international) codes of conduct, that serve as a framework of guidelines and anchors to its responsible investing ambition.
