Robeco wins VIIP 2013 'Gouden Pump' Award

16-04-2013 | Press release Robeco wins the VIIP 2013 'Gouden Pump' Award. This award goes to an organization that demonstrably tries to appoint women to board-level, supervisory and management positions in the world of institutional pensions.

According to the head of the panel of judges, Sybilla Dekker, the way in which Robeco has brought the topic of gender diversity to people's attention is particularly important. Dekker: "The light-hearted approach attracts attention and fits in with the culture. The diversity policy is well thought out and it has a concrete structure that also actively involves the men in the organization." The panel was also impressed by the link that Robeco makes between diversity and sustainability in its interactions with the outside world. "Robeco uses cooperation and dialogue to try to also influence the companies in which it invests to promote diversity," according to the head of the panel.

Robeco was one of three companies that were nominated. The others were Abvakabo FNV and Stichting Pensioenfonds Achmea. The head of the panel of judges explained that in assessing the three nominees, the size of the organizations were taken into account, and factors such as "embedded in the DNA" "concrete objectives and "practical implementation". The panel also focused on concrete results achieved. Two of the five members of Robeco's management board are women. Then there are mainly a large number of women in staff positions. Robeco has an active women's network Pink Capital. The jury's recommendation for the short term was to include more women in the client teams.

This was the second time that the VIIP presented the ‘Gouden Pump’ award. This award underscores VIIP efforts to ensure greater visibility of women in the pensions sector. Women currently only occupy 10% of positions on management boards, in supervisory bodies and positions with a policy-making role. The VIIP feels that this percentage should be at least 30%. Any organization that thinks that it may be eligible for the award can put its name forward before 1 March. The nominees made presentations to the panel on 27 March. In addition to panel chairperson, Sybilla Dekker, chairwoman of the Talent to the Top Foundation, other members were Sandra Smits, VIIP, Toine van der Stee, Managing Director of Blue Sky Group and Onno Verstegen, Member of the Board of Delta Lloyd.

VIIP has 220 members. They work in the pension sector for pension funds, pension providers, pension insurers and their advisors.
