Investing in sustainability pays off

Last week, the SAM awards were presented in the Netherlands and Germany for the first time in both countries. In Holland, the ceremony was set in Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk. At the awards ceremony in the Museum für Telekommunikation in Berlin, Michael Baldinger, CEO of SAM Group, paid tribute to the achievements of the BMW Group.

SAM, a subsidiary of the Robeco Group, is a specialist in the field of sustainable investing. The services SAM offers cover sustainable management products, indexes, a variety of sustainability services, and sustainable investing in private equity. The SAM Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) were developed together with Dow Jones Indexes. SAM, based in Switzerland, was founded in 1995, and has over 100 employees. SAM’s mission is to promote sustainable thinking.

Each year SAM assesses companies on sustainability, and the results are then published in the Sustainability Yearbook. The companies with the highest rating are rewarded for their achievements. These are the companies that are best able to respond to opportunities and to deal with risks arising from economic, environmental and social developments. The companies with the highest score in their sector gain recognition as SAM Sector Leaders. Companies showing the greatest improvement in their sustainability performance are regarded as SAM Sector Movers.
