Group Risk Management (GRM) is a staff department reporting into the CFO. GRM assists the Executive Committee (ExCo) of Robeco by identifying, monitoring and reporting on market-, counterparty -, liquidity-, model-, operational- and strategic risk. The GRM department has 18 FTE, of which 11 FTE work in the Financial Risk Management department (FRM) and 7FTE in the Operational Risk Management department (ORM). The FRM department consists of two separate teams, a reporting team (4FTE) and an analysis team (7FTE).
GRM intends to hire an experienced risk manager to lead the risk analysis team. The team focusses on market, liquidity, counterparty and model risk management of all Robeco’s products. As such, the FRM department is responsible for the financial risk management for a wide variety of products and fund types: equity, bonds, global-macro, mix funds, private equity, securities lending, structured products, overlay management and fiduciary management. In addition, the risk analysis department has an important role in the financial risk management of Robeco proprietary exposures.
The FRM analysis department is tasked with the development of Robeco’s financial risk management policies, and in addition the department monitors and analyses all relevant financial risks in the Robeco portfolios. In this role it acts both as a watchdog and a sparring partner of the front office. Although the main task of the department is to identify, analyze and report on the various risk categories, the department is frequently involved in risk-related issues within the organization. Team member are frequently called upon to be present at client visits. The team also plays an important role in Robeco’s financial crisis organization.
The head of risk analysis role has a seat on all the risk and valuations committees at strategic level. He or she ideally also serves as a thought leader with respect to important risk tropics. Interaction in this role is mostly with risk, line-management, front-office, support departments and clients. The position is located in Rotterdam and reports to the Head of Risk.
We are looking for a senior risk manager, who works on an academic level with at least 10 years’ experience in risk management within the financial sector. Experience in asset management is considered a pre-requisite. The ideal candidate has proven himself in a role as risk manager and team-lead. The candidate has good quantitative skills but is also able to translate complex issues to a broad audience.
The candidate is a strong team player with good communication skills (both verbally and in writing) and communicates easily on different levels throughout the organization. The candidate is able to counterbalance the commercial functions in maintaining policies and controls.
